Elephant calf Mudanda was rescued on the 3rd of August when a DSWT Pilot spotted her alone in the Mbololo watercourse on a routine aerial surveillance flight through Tsavo East National Park. Rescued by the Voi Elephant Keepers that same day, this one year old female calf quickly calmed after meeting Mbirikani and the other Keeper dependent orphans. Like many recent newcomers to the DSWT, it is suspected that Mudanda is a victim of poaching. Help DSWT to provide the specialist care she will need at the Voi Stockades as she grows in order to return to a life in the wild at: http://www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/asp/orphan_profile.asp?N=296

On 3rd November 2013 a Total Solar Eclipse will pass over Uganda among other Countries. It is a hybrid eclipse which is the rarest of the four types of solar eclipses and consists of three phases. At first the moon is not large enough to completely cover the sun, which is the start of an annular solar eclipse. As the moon’s shadow tracks across the surface of the earth, the curvature of the globe causes the surface to rise up a little. This is enough to change the event into a total solar eclipse. And as the curvature of the earth drops away again it becomes an annular once more. One of the best places to experience this awe inspiring spectacle is in the northern part of Uganda, near Murchison Falls National Park. Together with international tour operators, Great Lakes Safaris and Premier Safaris among others, have been preparing some special trips to ensure that the experienced eclipse chasers can witness this wonder at its best!
