Brothers in Arms…Okavango Delta, Botswana
These two young Leopard brothers (Panthera pardus) made for great partners as they double teamed any unfortunate prey that unwittingly passed near their vantage point overlooking the floodplain.

A Sheep in Wolves Clothing…South Luangwa Nat. Park, Zambia.
Take some time to learn about the amazing social structure of the Lycaon pictus or “painted wolf”, the scientific name of the African Wild Dog. While it is true that this species is perhaps one of the most efficient hunters in Africa, it also may be one of the most tender hearted. Wild dogs will allow their young to feed first, have an extensive communal family structure, regurgitate meat for the young and less fortunate of the pack, and is one of the few species that will care for sick or injured members of their family. These and many other attributes make this a species worthy of protecting and defending its right to run free in the wild.

Camping in Africa has its risks... "We found a visitor at our campsite after returning from a game drive one evening in Botswana. This lioness obviously visits the campsite often looking for scraps, but we took no chance. We followed her on the road until she was at least a kilometer away from the camp before we raced back and jumped into our tents!" Bobtail squid !! This tiny squid may look dazzling to you, but its shimmering colors actually help to camouflage it from predators! At only 1-8 cm long, the bobtail squid would make a quick meal, and its best defense is to just not be seen at all. It's struck a deal with some bioluminescent bacteria: the bacteria live inside the squid's special "light organ" and in return they change the way the squid looks when viewed from below by hungry creatures. The tiny squid's silhouette is disguised downwelling moonlight and starlight... romantic.
