- Giant waterspout is over Hongze Lake in eastern China’s Jiangsu Province. Photographer Yue Mingyou, who captured the dramatic image, says: It started from 17:30 and lasted around 25 minutes, during which time a grey water pipe connected between the lake surface and the sky. It was phenomenal.

A plucky impala escapes the claws and jaws of a hunting lioness. The moment was caught on camera by photographer Jayesh Mayesh in Botswana. Jayesh said: “I learned later that the lioness is actually blind in one eye, which is why I think she wasn’t so quick on the mark to strike her prey.”

This is Trezo Je, one of four leucistic alligators at Gatorland in Orlando, Florida. There are only 15 known leucistic alligators in the world, according to Tim Williams, the park’s media relations officer. Leucistic alligators are known for their white skin and blue eyes.
